To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together. The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. Historians point to the invention of the wheel as a major turning point in world history. The invention of the LEGO wheel had the same monumental effect in the history of LEGO, making it possible to create cars, trucks and eventually the LEGO train building set that is one of the most successful LEGO sets of all time. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

This is a great motor I've had it for a few years now. I used to have it on a garbge conveyer belt And occasionally it stopped and I had to let it cool down. Right now it is in my mobile crane and can lift about 3/4 pound of stuff. I plan to get 2 xl motors and get an unimog u400 for Christmas and replace the m motor that comes with it with an xl then use the m motor for steering because I'm going to make it rc and have the other xl for driving.

Comments about LEGO Power Functions M-Motor (8883):

Excellent motor. I got it with my motorized walking AT-AT. It works very well, great RPM amount, but is is pretty low in power. Otherwise great motor. It fits into any small space for lego contraption.

Fantastic beginning motor

By Thunderlego94

from Austin

Comments about LEGO Power Functions M-Motor (8883):

This is the first lego motor that i have acquired. It is excellent for use. It gives a fair amount f power and it is good and small so that it can fit on the objects that are built. I have built large cranes and etc that use the motor and it is wonderful. It is fun to work it out with the infrared remote as well. I promote it and think that it is a good motor to start of with. I am going to definitely try other motors to see how they work, but i recommend this as a good beginning option!

Not enough POWER ??

By Suspet

from Humlebaek

Comments about LEGO Power Functions M-Motor (8883):

After having my Emerald Night for about a year now, I wanted to make a MOC steam locomotive. The 8882 XL-motor has more than plenty power for trains, but it's a bit bulky and requires a rather large loco body to be built into. The XL-motor can pull a train for about 3 hours on a fully charged 8878 rechargable battery box. I bought a brand new 8883 M-motor and mounted it in a wheel and gear setup similar to the Emerald Night. It runs great for almost 2 hours pulling 2 coaches, but the motor gets very warm. After cooling for about 15 minutes the motor is ready again. If used with RC , changing direction and stops will give you about 5 hours of running power on a fully charged 8878. NOT BAD AT ALL !! Reading the other reviews of this motor, I'm prepared that I might actually wear this motor out, and change it after a while, but so far, after running trains for more than 20 hours on this motor, no problems yet. Plenty power for it's size, and fantastic for trains and other power functions. The size of this motor makes it perfect for fitting into (smaller) trains.

M Motor

By Quack

Comments about LEGO Power Functions M-Motor (8883):

I don't understand why they call it the M Motor. Is there going to be a Small motor? Anyway, mine broke after under a year, and it was under no strain! Otherwise it is fine.

Why the complaints about short life?

By prophetofdoom

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Power Functions M-Motor (8883):

The first thing that I have to say is that the life of this motor is actually quite good. If you use a clutch gear to avoid over-torquing the motor, it will last a long time. My first one lasted nearly two years without a clutch gear, being used at least twice a week (on average-I use my other one a lot more nowadays!). The reason I am giving this otherwise excellent set only 4 stars is because of its lack of torque. Lego motors have always lacked torque, and this one continues the tradition! But, if you want easy motorization, buy this set. Sooooooooooooooo easy to use!

The product is great and the kids love it, but has a short life span. I'm needing to buy new motors more often than desired.
