This is for my 10-yr-old granddaughter, who is hard to awaken. I thought it had metal bells (they're plastic) and the clapper doesn't hit the bells--the alarm is a soft beep, and doesn't wake anyone around here. *I* should have read the description better, and realize that if it took a battery, versus wind-up, it wouldn't work well for what I needed. However, she loves it, mainly because of the brand, and that's all that matters. I would recommend it for smaller children/toddlers, as I think it would be better suited for them.
