I bought this when my second baby was born because my older child was so loud while she was napping. I agree with previous reviews that the sounds are weird, but my babies LOVED them! This product was a lifesaver and my now 18 month old still loves it.

The mp3 function on this doesn't work. We just started using it with our newborn and I am going to try and return or exchange it. I am hoping babies r us takes it back. I am frustrated- guess we should have tested before. The sound machine is not inexpensive and should be better quality.

We bought the older model of this 6 years ago and it still works, though the volume is very low. Less than a year ago, we bought the newer model for our newest baby. The volume problem had been fixed so we loved it -- for 9 months. It then broke. Called customer service number and they were not helpful. Wish I had read the reviews of the new model first, as this seems to be a big problem. DO NOT BUY.
*On a separate note, I'm a mom of 3 and agree with the doctor that posted earlier...the sounds are harsh but all of our kids LOVED them.

DISREGARD ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS STATING THAT THE HEARTBEAT SOUND IS NOT REALISTIC.

As a physician and a mom, I can assure you that one of the sounds is precisely what your little angel has been listening to for the past 40ish weeks. The sound mimics the mother's aorta/iliac arteries, and if you've ever listened to a vascular doppler, you'll appreciate it. Just because there are some parents who don't like the "harshness" of the sound doesn't mean that your little one doesn't feel right at home because of it. Your infant is not used to a manufactured "lub dub" heartbeat that adults consider a "normal" heartbeat sound. I have used this product for the past 21 months with my daughter, and she was sleeping 10 hours through the night by 6 weeks old (thanks also in part to the book 12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks Old), which I HIGHLY recommend as well.

When I bought this and it said it had 6 noise sounds, I figured it was rainforest, white noise, etc, but then I looked at the names of them in the manual and it was things like, kerplosh and other weird things. I plugged it in and the sounds were the craziest things ever, but obviously mimicking heartbeats and things. We weren't sure if we were going to keep it, until one of the many evenings that my son was fussy and I tried it out and turned on the most annoying one to calm him. And the claim that the machine makes that it calms babies 90% of the time is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! IT IS AMAZING AT CALMING FUSSY BABIES!!! We have it on the normal white noise sound for sleeping and then use the other crazy sounds to calm him. It is well worth the money.

This sound machine has several great sounds (utero & heartbbeat sounds were our son's favorite), but it started to have issues before we even left the hospital. First (in the three days we were in the hospital)the light under the power button started to flash randomly (we finally taped over it with electrical tape because it was so annoying). Then the volume controls began to fail and we couldn't control the volume. Now the sounds have all become terrible screeching or bleeping noises. We have used this machine for exactly six months total. Mind you, we have used it all night, ever night, and during all naps, but still I would expect it to hold up much better.

I purchased this product after my daughter slept very well with the humidifier on & the noise put her to sleep. I didnt want to depend on the humidifier every night to get her to sleep so someone recommended a white noise machine. I got this & plugged it in when i got home. & when i turned on the "white noise" sounds I was freaked out. My boyfriend asked me what the heck that noise was. It was terrifying. It sounded like a sound track from a horror movie. It does play some music which was ok but it wont help my daughter sleep. The night light was nice but thats the only positive thing i can say about this product. I will return this & try the Graco. Its a little more expensive but im wiling to pay for it. I wouldnt recommend this product unless you want to risk your child having nightmares.

Sound was great but this thing dies after 6 months. It has one job....make noise. And it lasted 6 months and just stopped working. We are now using a white noise app on the iPad and it is way better and free.

When looking for a sound machine, this one seemed as though it would do the job. Our son has been sleeping with a sound machine since he was born. Our house is small, so having white noise in his room keeps him from being awakened easily. I absolutely love this machine and that's what keeps me going and getting another one. I HAVE HAD 3 OF THESE SOUND MACHINES IN LESS THAN 17 MONTHS. Our 3rd one has just suddenly stopped working on us. I continue to return them to toys r us, because they say i can only exchange it for the same one! This is absolutely ridiculous. When you are putting your child down for the night and go to turn your machine on and it doesn't work. I WOULD NOT recommend buying this!

First the positive...the blue light in the middle provides a good enough ambient glow to easily check on your little one while they sleep.

Now the negative...maybe there is a lot of research to show these sounds are soothing to a newborn; however, to my ears it sounds like a broken soundboard and a speaker bought at the lowest price point possible. Nothing special about this product at all. It comes with a fairly thick book with a broad spectrum of information about caring for newborns. Your really paying more for the book then you are the device itself.
