My daughter received this for her first birthday. We wanted her to have this because it's a classic and both her dad and I played with and we are both music oriented. She loves hearing the sound when she hits the bars with the stick and she also like to gnaw on the stick. The only qualm I have about the toy (and the reason why I didn't rate it 5 stars) is the length of the string is too short and it makes hitting the last two bars difficult.

I bought the Xylophone for my granddaughter but was sadly disappointed. When my daughter had this toy it played music when she pulled it. This one only plays music when you hit it with mallet. I would not have bought it if I known it wasn't like the old one. When the toy said CLASSIC I assumed it was like the old one.

A xylophone is just a xylophone. A baby like to bang on it and listen to the sound she is making. I understood why the cord was very short since she repeatedly tried to tie it around her neck. On the other hand, the cord tying the mallet to the instrument being so short she can hardly hit the metal bars with it, mostly hitting her fingers instead of the bars....For now she is mostly using it to drag it around the house.
