Thank you to Step2 for letting me test this item as part of the Step2 toy tester program.

With a 6 year old and a 3 year old in the home, sometimes it's a bit tough to find a toy that fits both their needs (and their heights)! My 6 year old is tall, but he still wants to have fun with pretend furniture and toys. My three year old is in the middle of growing to love pretend play, so it's important that they toys be interactive and sort-of realistic. That's why the Mixin' Up Magic Kitchen is so perfect for both of them.

Both boys love switching off between being chef and being a customer. They practice order-taking skills, and giving food orders as well (this will translate well into real life when we go out to restaurants). They put together their own "recipes" and see the cooking process through thanks to the bubbling water sounds, the blender sounds and the pretend microwave and food.

The accessories that it comes with makes it so that parents don't have to purchase any more dishes, utensils or cups. The real washcloth and oven mitt are perfect for kids and the blue buckets hold food that parents may already own. I also liked the recycling bin because it is so important for kids to learn how to recycle.

And although we don't own a dog (or a pretend dog for that matter), I liked how it had a pretend bowl for a pet because it made it more realistic. We use a frog in place of a dog, and the kids like it just fine.

All the compartments in the kitchen also helps to teach the kids to put things back where they belong. And of course, it's a great idea to tell the kids to take off the blenders, pots, etc. from the "stovetop" as the batteries will wear out quickly if one does not pay attention.

It was very easy to put together, I did it myself within an hour. The instructions are very detailed and the product is not heavy. Even when put together, it is very easy to move around. I recommend it for kids who love to pretend play and who like to be involved in the food-making process.

    Missing a part

The product has hard instructions. Things are not labled well. Once you get the hang of it though it isn't too hard. However, ours did not come with the "frying pan".

I am glad I purchased this product for my granddaughter to play with while she's visiting me. It keeps her occupied for good amount of time giving me time to do things around the house. She really enjoys her pretend kitchen. I love watching her maneuver around. The only thing missing was the decal for the cell phone.

Perfect! Kids love it. My 2 yr old and 4 yr old play with it daily. It's the perfect size for them to play together. my older girls are 9 and 13 and they play with it too. They do like to have it in the middle of the room because of the window. So it takes up a lot of space that way. I read reviews before I bought it and I saw some commenting on how the burners come off. Even if you don't put batteries in them, which I havent, you can still screw them down. Very easily I put this together with my childrens "help" in about half an hour.

My son loves this kitchen. The assembly with the screws is slightly difficult, and there's one area that is too small to even get a screwdriver in. Other than that issue, it's great!

I bought this for my 18 month old grandson. I liked that it was big enough to share with his soon to born sibling some day. I was afraid he would be too young to use the electronic appliances, but he loves them. picked them right up and knew what to do. all my children loved playing kitchen and I'm sure he will, too. It is a comfortable size for a 2 year old (and older) and very engaging. the only thing I don't like is the way the battery operated "burners" attach so loosely to the unit. they aren't secure

This kitchen set is just perfect! It's got everything a little one would want to play with. It even has a little phone to make "pretend" calls. My daughter is 14months and she loves taking things out and putting them back in. The stove top has these cooking sounds that she loves... I even put water in the sink and she pretends to do the dishes! I love it! Totally worth the price... She spends so much time playing I love it!

It was a little difficult to put together but once completed the kids LOVE IT! Only complaint I have is there isn't a shut off button for the burners for when your children decide to play with it in the early morning hours "popping popcorn" or "blending". This is not for a smaller child, ages of about 2 1/2 to about 7ish as the height is not easily accessible to my youngest.

My 21 month old daughter loves this kitchen. The skillet, blender, and boiling water sound effects makes her feel like she's really cooking. Would have been nice for the phone and microwave to have buttons that make beeping sounds but she still loves it.

easy to assemble, does need batteries none included. They love playing with the mixer and popcorn popper that twirl around. Also the pots and pan makes sizzling noise when their on the pretend burners. Also comes with dishes, cups, forks, spoons knives, phone and coffee pot. Has a place for puppy with food and water bowls but no puppy.
The pretender burners just sit in place on the stove,I wish that step 2 people would anchor these somehow. Kids take them off and carry them around. Also wish that it had come with some plastic food for the icebox and stove part to pretend with. Still a great toy that they love playing with.

Wish there were more electronics for the money... the toy phone could have at least made noise. but over all it was a great gift if you ask the kids.
