I was devastated when the Bionicle line was canceled a couple years back, so when I found out they were coming back I went nuts. The Toa look very different, but still cool. The new story line falls flat, though. I mean, a giant behemoth of a hero versus a wimpy baby spider. Wow. Anyway, now on to the set. The end product looks massive and intimidating, and is well worth the money. But the dual moving arms look really weird in motion. One arm looks cool, but two just feels ridiculous. The turbo shovelers look amazing, but the hammer, once again, looks horrible and throws the character off balance. Avoid using the hammer! The mask feels flimsy when attached because of the terrible new mask connection system. The function of popping off the mask isn't worth anything. It makes the set feel cheap, in a way. And the way the instructions say to combine Onua with the Protecter of Earth make me laugh. I just sort of scrapped it and used the cool pieces, honestly. Overall, a cool addition to my old Bionicle collection, but definitely a bit flawed.

There is an old saying that some things get better with age. I wouldn't say that Onua was one of them in this case. When I heard that BIONICLE was being re-released, I was excited. In this state I wanted to get my hands on one of the new sets, mainly Kopaka but I would settle for any of the other ones just in case to avoid disappointment (there were only two Onua sets left on the shelf). Little did I know, that's what I would end up feeling. My main compaints are about the two things that made BIONICLE unique; the gears and the masks. I don't know if this was intentional to make it easier to pose the figures, but the gears take a bit more effort to turn than on the original figures. Now, about the mask. I understand that the whole "mask flying off feature" is supposed to be a play function of this set, but it just doesn't feel right to me. The mask comes off with too little effort whether you want it to or not. Plus, why is it so small? Other than that, there's not much else I wish to add other than the fact I've changed my mind about getting Kopaka. For now.

Decided to collect all of the new bionicles (because why not) and was pleasantly surprised with Lego's use of both a new look and old-style (original-bionicle) elements. The spinning gears are well put together and unlike some of the Hero-Factory sets I've seen, the plastic DOES actually hold up to use.

The new bionicle sets are great sets. I like that each is built more uniquely (at least with the larger sets) than with the previous bionicle generation. And in my opinion the master forms look better than the uniter forms so id reccomend getting the master bionicle's first

        Master of Earth

        By Saphira3231

        from Taunton

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Onua Master of Earth (70789):

Onua was one of the six Master Toa that stood out to me the most, with his new huge torso and shoulders that demanded you recognise his strength, an enormously different message that was felt from his first generation appearance. This was the most challenging Master Toa to build, owing to a complex torso to accomadate the bulky armor and the need to apply the decal on his chest by hand, unlike the others where it is already printed on. Although appearing larger, Onua stands at a similar height to the other Masters but certainly stands out from the group. I felt that his legs could have done with a little bulking up to match the torso and help deliver the full extent of the powerful aura that is given out Otherwise this character is great and his mask has distinct similaraties to that of his first generation self, though i do miss the claw hands! Overall playability seems good, basically no restriction on the amount of body or head movement which is good, though the head seems as though it could have been made a fraction larger to match the torso.

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Onua Master of Earth (70789):

Pros: -Strong gear functions, built differently that others -Lots of armor/large chestplate -Weapon (hammer/claws) Cons: -Gold armor seems out of place; looks better when replaced with silver -Stickers on chestplate (LEGO, I don't trust myself to put the stickers on straight and neat, and neither should you)

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Onua Master of Earth (70789):

Its was fun building it. The color scheme is amazing!!! The gear can move both arms, but there is one problem with this set for me, the gears sometimes get stuck when moving the arms. I really love how the hammer can turn into claws for digging. Its a great set for kids and any bionicle lovers out there who don't have it.

          Onua is HUGE!!

          By brianm12

          from Bloomington

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Onua Master of Earth (70789):

I bought Onua today as the first of the Summer 2015 sets. The box is pure cardboard, and has no plastic or sturdy making to it. It is easily disfigured. It's probably done this way to save plastic, and keep the price lower. An okay switch. The build was probably my favorite that I've ever done. The gearbox was fun to assemble, and the hammer was as well. I don't think that the moveable arms via gears was a good idea in design (since it doesn't really add anything worthwhile, but it is neat. Onua's figure is huge and broad like a DC superhero, and is quite hilarious to look at even. The mask has already been addressed by another reviewer, but I'll say it again. I don't like how easily the mask can be knocked off. I don't really mind how small it is, but it doesn't exactly fit his persona. The posability is nice, but I'm still used to being able to easily move the arms and legs of the figure. Good for posing, but not as much for playing. Overall in the aspect of bad, the box is flimsy, the gearbox seems somewhat useless, and the mask falls off too easily. But on the good side, the build is very, very fun, the figure is huge and caricatured, and it can be easily posed for observing.

          Onua Toa of Earth

          By MojoTheMasterofLego

          from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Onua Master of Earth (70789):

Onua is a great set. I just love his color scheme. The black, gold, purple, trans-purple, and silver go really well together. His weapons are really nice, especially his hammer. And his gear function is second to none. Onua is very different looking than the other toa, mainly because he is almost as wide as he he is tall. But this is not a bad thing. This makes him the most unique of all the toa. He also has clawed/ webbed feet that give the look of someone that would be digging underground. He has huge shoulders, that are actually the same pieces used for his turbo shovelers. He also has a huge chest piece, but unfortanetly, has stickers. I don't hate stickers, but they can be a pain in the butt to put on. But, with the stickers it looks great. He also has a long neck which allows for way more possibility and a hunched look. His colours go really nice together, especially the black and purple. He even has trans-purple bones! It looks so beautiful in the light. The gold pieces look really nice too. His weapons are really cool. He can either have two big turbo shovelers, and when you turn the gear on his back it makes it look like Onua is "digging" underground, which is just awesome. Or you can combine his turbo shovelers to make a gigantic earthquake hammer. His hammer is really cool, but when you turn his gear, one arm has nothing to hold and looks kinda weird. It is not a major problem, but it kinda looks weird at times. But if you combine him with the Protector of Earth, this problem is solved, because you put the protectors drill in his open hand. His functions are great, especially his gear function. It is super strong, making it almost stiff and hard to turn. But that is not an issue whatsoever. It is so strong that it can hold super heavy weapons, including his hammer, without even falling. You can even shake him and his arms will not even budge, unlike Tahu or Kopaka's gear function, which is just strong enough to hold their weapons up, but nothing else. His mask pop off function is the same as al, the others. When you hit the back off the eye stalk, the mask, or skull spider, goes flying. But this also means that the mask can sometimes fall off unintentionally. Also, it can not be combined with older bionicle sets, meaning the masks are not compatible. But it is not a huge problem. His double weapon function is cool, but different from that of Tahu or Kopaka, where their weapons connect to their feet, a surfboard for Tahu, skis for Kopaka, his weapons though, do not connect to his feet, but his hands. It is not my favorite double weapon function, but it is still pretty cool. The skull spider is the same as the ones that come in Tahu, the Protector of Fire, and the Protector of Earth. It is a light, pale green colour, and is one of the three types you can get, the other are silver or blue. Onua also has the most pieces, making him the best bang for your buck. And is complex too, making him a fun building challenge. Short version: Pros: - weapon function - gear function - looks - pieces - color scheme - bulkiness - masks Cons: - nothing In conclusion, I think Onua is a great set. Get him before he is gone! I would also recommend these great products:
