Product Description

Experience gaming magic like never before with LeapFrog Imagicard PAW Patrol, an all-new digital learning game that brings 30+ character and curricular cards to life onscreen. Join Ryder and the PAW Patrol as they lend a paw for Adventure Bay Appreciation Week, and unleash mathematics and problem-solving skills to earn Good Citizen badges. For children ages 3 to 5. Works with LeapFrog LeapPad tablets (excludes LeapPad1).
As you download the LeapFrog Imagicard PAW Patrol game to your LeapPad tablet, children can sort the cards and explore offscreen activities on the included play mat. When you're ready to play, the game will prompt your child to find the card with the pup they'd like to play first. Use the LeapPad camera to capture the card and bring the character to life onscreen.
LeapFrog Imagicard PAW Patrol features 6 playable pups. Patrol the bay for citizens who need help, and then find the pup with the right tools and skills for each mission. Capture their cards to bring them into the game! For example, when Mayor Goodwin needs a pup to fix the sidewalk, capture the card with Rubble the construction pup to send him and his Digger to the rescue. Then, capture shapes and number cards to solve the problem and save the day. Plant flowers, rescue bunnies, clear roads, deliver packages and more by matching shapes, counting, sorting, adding, subtracting and completing patterns.
Children can also test their PAW Patrol know-how by capturing cards to answer 50+ trivia questions. Plus, have a PAWsome time taking "selfies" with favorite pups, and decorate the images with stickers earned for completing missions.
LeapFrog Imagicard PAW Patrol includes a downloadable game, 30+ character and curricular cards, a play mat, a digital card gallery (so children can play without cards on hand) and a collectible card storage tin.

This game comes with a stack of cards in a tin box, a poster looking thing (which we have yet to use) and a game cartridge. Basically the kids play the game cartridge and when they select a character, they do so by taking a picture of the character card they want. The character becomes animated and leaps out of the picture on the screen. Its the same process when answering challenge questions. I was a little wary of getting a bunch of cards that I would have to keep track of, in addition to the game cartridge, but the kids really, really enjoy this hybrid card/ video game. I like that it incorporates the physical into digital learning games because the more senses they use while playing the more it stays with them. The kids love that when they take a picture of a regular card, it becomes animated on their LeapPad screen and recognizes it in their game. They have always been in love with the camera feature and I think that might add to the allure as well. I did need to sit down with them the first couple times they played (I have a 5 yr old going into kindergarten, and a 7 year old going into 2nd grade. My 5 yr old was the one who needed help mostly) to help them when they didn't know what to do with this new type of game. The learning curve will probably be longer for younger kids and those who don't have experience taking pictures on devices. They played the game in the car and, mean mom that I am, I wouldn't let them bring the cards. But my son discovered that he could play it without the cards as well because there's a little red button with three cards on it, on the capture screen, that will take you to a digital catalog of the cards for that game. The kids definitely prefer playing with the physical cards, but they'll do it the other way if they have to. So have no fear, when the cards get lost someday, the kids will still be able to play.

I guess I really don't see the point in the cards. I like the normal cartridge games better. The game itself is cute but it's a hassle every time it prompts the kid to take a picture of a certain card he comes to me for help. Defeats the purpose of his quiet alone time with the leap pad. Also, cards are already getting bent up and lost. Maybe he is just too young for the cards, he is 3. I would only suggest buying these if your child is older.

Comments about LeapFrog Imagicard PAW Patrol Learning Game (for LeapPad tablets):

I bought this on sale at the store, it was cheaper than buying it thru the LeapFrog website. It was the last one. What I like best is once you enter the code the game is downloaded onto the LeapPad, so you don't have to worry about losing the game cartridge. Also while it comes with cards, they can play the games without them. My son loves Paw Patrol and loves this game.

Comments about LeapFrog Imagicard PAW Patrol Learning Game (for LeapPad tablets):

My daughter is three and she is really enjoying this game. She got a tablet for Christmas, and this is the game we bought with it. It is appropriate for her age, and it engages her successfully. It is educational, so the game is actually using numbers and shapes as part of the missions. She's a paw patrol fan, and she is super excited about playing with Rubble, or Chase in the leapfrog. The graphics are super cute, and the game itself was easy to download and install.

Cards and materials are colorful and vibrant. My 3 year old just got his tablet though and is not able to coordinate and use the camera to take pics of the cards yet, which appear to need to be positioned ever so correctly. So will see what happens with time...
