Building a massive technic model isn't always fun, I mean, pushing a cross axel through multiple technic beams isn't all that fun and sometimes they're not properly aligned so you end up either having blisters or leaving a mark on your table. That said, this was a very different experience and the end result is worth the blisters. The first thing different is the presentation. The box is very different to previous branded "technic" sets, like the 8145 in 2007 (Ferrari 599 GTB) or the 8461 from 2002 (BMW-Williams FW24 F1), in that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has artwork inside the box that shows the 911's evolution, and instead of just having a bunch of plastic bags, the plastic bags are split into different smaller boxes. So you open the box and you see 5 other boxes and the instruction manual that is high quality, 500 pages thick, and looks great on your coffee table (I had hoped the LEGO would make the instruction manual a hardcover but this will do). The box on the right side houses the exclusive GT3 RS wheels. Underneath the instruction manual is box #1, which has a picture of an engine on it; box #2 has a picture of a racing bucket seat; box #3 has a picture of the hood/bonnet; box #4 has a picture of the rear wing/spoiler. But that's not all, the whole building process has been modelled after the Porsche assembly line, so you start with the chassis, engine, gearbox, which is in box #1, then you move onto the interior and roll cage, then the body panels and the wheels. While you build, you can read on the development and building process of the real life GT3 RS. Apart from the above, this is like any other technic set, but if you love cars and or lego, this is a must have experience. I won't recommend any other sets because nothing else in the current LEGO lineup comes close. I would have given it 5 stars for play experience except I got blisters and this isn't really a set you harvest parts from.

Love everything about the real GT3. The way this model looks is disappointing. Was hoping the pictures may have been exaggerating the gaps, but the gaps around the headlights and hood are just too big. It just doesn`t look like a GT3. The Beetle model looks much more like the real thing. This Lego GT3 does not.

GREAT BUILD

By JBrock

from Milton Keynes

Comments about LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056):

As soon as i opened the box, I fell in love! Everything was beautify presented. Loved how the boxes was numbered on where to start, the manual its self was lovely to look through. The info on the 911 and how it all started was amazing. As soon as I started to build, I really didn't want to stop! The price tag is a bit much, but like I said, enjoyed every second. I would love to see more like this, start up a new collection of real dream sports cars, same size same detail, etc. looking forward to see whats next...

The Best Lego/Technic Build To Date

By 993Builder

from New York

Comments about LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056):

I was very skeptical of this somewhat expensive "branded" lego/technic offering. After opening the box and reading part of the book/story and starting the build--I was completely changed. Any review of this offering could go "on and on" about the thoughtfulness, presentation, detail, and overall enjoyment of this build. I personally believe it is the best lego offering to date. It has the potential to be the standard which all other "exclusives" are judged. It is worth every penny. I have absolutely no "buyer's remorse" which I have experienced with other items. Enjoy.

I enjoyed this build, and for a novice Technic builder it was a little tricky which I really enjoyed. Lets hope there are some more >4000 piece Technic display builds. Would be cool if lego or someone release a 'remote control kit' or instructions

Put a non-stop smile on my face...

    By GabrielRider

    from Wash DC

Comments about LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056):

This was one of the most satisfying builds I have had in a long time. Lego and the Technic team, you nailed it with this kit. From the moment the box arrived, I felt like this was something special. You did not disappoint. Yes it is on the upper end. But the satisfaction of seeing the jewel transmission come together, complete with double clutch, just superb. It was the experience. Something to savor. Seeing it all come together. It took me back in spots, when I couldn't imagine where the designer was going, and then realizing just how exquisitely it was all coming together. I had this pang when I realized all the wonderful mechanics were going to be occluded by the body panels, but then the body itself was so faithfully rendered. The attention to detail - bright light elements beneath the headlight lense, the two-part K-Lunk sound of the trunk lid closing - are you kidding!! I know, simple things, but just a joy. I would welcome a B-kit. Have a contest, I have some ideas. There were hints that this was the first in a new series. I can't wait for the next one. Just brilliant.

    very cool build

    By kubotase

Comments about LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056):

WOW what a presentation. This is a very nice build for Technics fans or Porsche fans. I added an L motor and a couple of gears so I could watch the transmission work. The Lego engineers made the prefect place to mount it, up front their is a shaft that ends in front of the gear box. Also for those that want to see the engine better you can leave out a couple of connectors on the manifold above the engine and the black cover. That way you can flip open the cover and the manifold to watch the engine working. Please lets see more of this kind of Technics models.

    The ultimate Lego model

    By moggy1

    from Fleet

Comments about LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056):

I am a Lego addict and this is the set that most places me in a state of Lego Nirvana... Seriously, I love Lego models like Tower Bridge and the F40 and the Sea Cow, and I especially love Technic models like the mobile crane, but this Porsche changes the game. It is not only a brilliant example of Lego machinery and innovative construction but also a stunningly beautiful and incredibly accurate model of one of my favourite cars of all time.
