I got the box today and all three of the kids were so excited to open it that it became a good incentive to get things done. LOL Once they opened it, they were surprised at the feel and how much actually came with the box.

The feel is not sticky like you would think, but dry with flexible rubber spikes and a firm middle. The ball in which you attach the buncems is the size of a tennis ball with a soft material in which the bunchems easily stick to.

There is a red on/off switch on the bottom of the ball it takes 3 triple A batteries which do not come with the product.

They boys immediately went to work to make as many things as they could. They didn't follow the suggestions of things they could make, but instead used their own ideas.

After about 20 minutes, they each had finally completed a character in which they were satisfied. Once they had "show and tell" about them, they were quick to tear them apart, trade pieces and make more items. They made people, trees, boxes, cookie monster, cars, and anything else they could come up with.

The fun part was turning the ball on and watching him wiggle all over. It was almost a fight to see who would turn it on next. Some of the bunchems fell off when we turned it on, but it held its form pretty well.

This toy comes with a suggested age of 4 and older but I would be concerned about the small pieces and the temptation young children get to chew on things. I will say once you pass the age of gnawing on things, it is a lot of fun and even the adults had a turn!

Two of the boys are older (14 and 16) who are on the autism spectrum and kept them occupied for quite some time. They enjoyed discovering all of the things they could do with it and it was busy work with their hands.

One con was they wanted more colors such as red, orange and yellow.

All in all, I would recommend this product to anyone who likes to build things and use their imagination!

When I first got Bunchems Alive, I was apprehensive because I had heard these were getting stuck in little girls' hair. I figured with supervision and a little preemptive hair-in-a-bun style, we would be fine. After letting the kids play with these, I still have a love/hate thing going on. What I Love - The idea. Since kids can stick these to each other any way they want, it really allows them to explore creatively and in unlimited ways. Ease of use. My 3 year old, 6 year old, and 8 year old all had no problem using the Bunchems and the accessories that went with them. The motorized ball that comes with it. All of my children got such a kick out of their creation jiggling around. It also inspired them to problem-solve ways to get their critter to be able to stay standing upright while it jiggled. I'm all for those awesome learning opportunities. Having an instruction sheet to show kids how to make different animals. Okay, maybe "love" is a strong word for the instructions. It was definitely more useful as inspiration than as step-by-step instructions. My 8 year old LOVES to follow instructions to build with and he found these instructions overly complicated. I had to help him a lot and he hates that. I did appreciate the inspiration, though, which my 3 and 6 year olds used to make some adorable little hybrid monsters. What I Hate - Having a toy I have to store until I can give 100% attention to supervise for fear of having to shave my daughter's hair in order to remove these synthetic burrs from our lives. I'm not unreasonable. I understand Bunchems are not meant for the hair. The toy came with several warnings about NOT getting these in a child's hair. I explained this THOROUGHLY to my children before I ever even opened these things. I put the girls' hair up in a tight braid and a bun so in the event that they didn't listen, removal wouldn't be so tragic. This ended up being a really great thing to do when, sadly, we let our guard down, stopped paying as close attention, and big brother got too close to sister's head with his Bunchems dragon... Since her hair was neatly brushed and braided to begin with, the Bunchems only got tangled at the surface and I was able to slide each piece out of the hair with relatively little effort. Even after this situation, my children begged to play with this toy again... And again... And again... BOTTOM LINE - I appreciate the idea behind Bunchems Alive. I would absolutely recommend them for creative kids who do not have a lot of hair. I would not recommend them for children with long, thick, or curly hair. If a parent is okay with the risk of entanglement, I recommend brushing and tying back the hair first. I don't have pets but I can imagine these would be bad news for a pet's hair, too. Bunchems Alive definitely requires parental supervision.

just a so so toy

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

My 7 year old was excited with the package and looked forward to opening it and playing with the toy. We unpacked everything and separated it out on the table. We looked over the directions and found them a bit confusing. We were able to follow along with one of them with adult help but found the pieces did not want to stick together very well. After much trial and error we did figure out that if you connect them end to end they stick better but still not perfect. We did manage to get 2 animals built and to turn the toy on to vibrate but honestly we all got quite bored rather quickly with the item. I also had to carefully supervise to make sure she pulled her hair back so that they did not get stuck in her hair.

Beware the hair!!!!

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

This is a fantastic product for an older child, not a 5 year old. My 5 year old had a great time playing with this and I had fun helping her build it. However, once in the hair (which younger children have a tendency to do), there is no easy way to remove it without a pair of scissors. I could recommend this for a child maybe 8 or older...even adults as it was fun to build and watch it go. Younger children, perhaps if very closely supervised, but certainly not on their own. It does allow for a child to use their imagination which is fantastic. My daughter made up her own designs with my hands right there to keep the little things out of her hair. In closing, I would certainly recommend this for an older child or an aging adult to keep the brain sharp. Would not recommend this for a young child though.

Fun but...

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

My child really enjoyed playing with this toy, however; after a short period of time the "balls" became cluttered with hair, fuzz, dust, etc and made it difficult for them to stick. Probably best played at a pet free house!

Fun- but short-lived

By Gradyhound

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

My 7 and 9 year olds had fun with the brightly colored Bunchem Alives. The box was easy to open- and my kids loved making sure we received all of the pieces! The instructions were easy for the kids to follow on how to build many different objects including a crab, a bird, a dragon or even a dog. For the imaginative, kids can definitely design their own creatures and objects! We have two dogs who bless our home with their hair, so that ended up getting into the Bunchems as well. Not the end of the world, just annoying. The kids have played a with Bunchems Alive many times the first three days, but since then, only a few more times. This was not nearly as much as I had hoped. Overall, it's a good product, no big complaints, just doesn't hold my kids interest for long periods of time.

Fun out of the box

By Happyscrapper42

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

My 9 yo daughter and 7 yo son were able to play with these right out of the box! Bunchems link together easily (with a hook and loop structure kinda like velcro). Easy to assemble, creations stick together really well. My kids loved the add accessories like the tongue, tail and googly eyes. Their only complaint was that they wanted more colors (which you can get in additional sets). They played with these for about 40 mins before we even added the batteries. My daughter gives 4 out of 5 starts and son said 3 1/2 stars. I liked that you could play with them immediately out of the box and the made the creatures unique and cute.

A little difficult for small hands

By ucfbrooke

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

My son and I were very excited to give this toy a try and when it arrived on our doorstop my son tore it open and wanted to play with it right away. I did see previous reviews about the bunchems getting stuck in long hair, so he was lectured about keeping these away from his and from Mommy's hair. We also did not let him play with these along. He was excited to see from the instructions the different "animals" he could build. I liked the colors and the fact that when making different bunchems you can practice counting and sorting. Well, once we were able to start building, it kind of went down hill from there. He hard a hard time getting the different balls to stick together requiring me to help squeeze them on. We finally finished one little guy and got him turned on and my son did like the final product. But then he was quickly bored with it and did not want to try to build another one. I think this might be a good rainy day toy for an older child, but because of the difficulty in getting the bunchems to stick on his own my son does not gravitate to this toy.

Bunchems! Alive!

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

I have never heard of these until BzzAgent sent them to us. They are great for kids of all ages! My son is 7 and he really enjoys making animals with them. Once he is done, he leaves it on his shelf in his room for display to show off his awesome work! After a few days he takes it apart and makes a new one. They are easy to bunch together as well as pull apart. Making them come "alive" makes it that much more fun! I would reccomend this toy for kids all ages! Just make sure they are put away when done using or they will get stuck to couches, floormats etc.

Not worth the time!

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

I thought these would be a good toy for my girls imagination.....wrong!! My daughters had fun making things with these but I left them alone for awhile and came back to a tangled mess of hair. I can't honestly recommend this product to anyone. Mine is going directly in the trash. Took me 3 hours to untangle these things out of my daughters hair.

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

I think this is a clever toy that my children spent many hours playing with - she loved the colorful character and the fuzzy texture. She loved to laugh with the sounds and used her imagination to incorporate this toy with her others . It was rainy day and this toy really entertains. I did not even know anything about this toy but I am a fan of this .

Good toy for my ADHD son

By tawitham

from Parkville, MD

Comments about Spin Master 1001130 Bunchems Alive - Motorized Action Pack:

My 8-year-old son has been enjoying this toy. He started by following the directions that came with the box to create a bird and dog and other animals. Then he started making his own creations. I think he enjoyed both ways to play. I liked that it kept him occupied and required him to follow step-by-step directions (to create the pre-set creatures) AND also allowed him to use his imagination. Cleanup is pretty easy, too. He bunched everything together in one big ball. Love it! ;) His critiques: he wished this set had more colors (especially red) and maybe a few more accessories. He didn't get the motor part to work but that may be because we didn't put batteries in it. I can't remember if it came with batteries included or if I was supposed to put them in. My son opened it and started playing before I could check it out. So that's another plus about this toy: it doesn't take much parental set up or supervision. I would buy this for my nieces/nephews.
