A Great Tool for Checking Out "What Lies Beneath"

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. SubScope:

Received Product as part of the Educational Insights EI Insiders Program...

I wish we'd had this the last time we went to the lake... but we're definitely taking it next time! The kids absolutely love the durable and colorful SubScope, which can technically be used to look underwater without entering the water, but imagine what fun it is when you're IN the water?

The SubScope floats, and that makes in a fun vehicle to splash around with, but the 2x magnification and LED lighting make it fun for checking out "what lies beneath."

So far, we've only had this in the pool, but again, we'll be taking this out to the lake to see what's roaming in the shallow waters just as soon as we can.

    Rock Father-approved!

This is a great product for those curious adventurers. It allows for a great view under water. It is perfect to take to the beach, camping, or fishing. We had it out at the cabin and it provided a wonderful view under the water.

You have to make sure that you do not have an air bubble under the viewer as you go under water. If that happens, a quick move around and the air bubble disappears and reveals a wonderful view of under the sea :)
      Great educational product.

I did receive this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. SubScope:

On our summer vacation we brought the GeoSafari® Jr. SubScope™ from Educational Insights that definitely added a whole level of discovery!

Quite simply, it's exactly what it sounds like it would be! It looks like a little submarine but has a scope inside to help you see what's underneath the water. My kids all enjoyed this one! My six year old daughter Paige was looking through it for a long time trying to find seashells close to the shoreline. When she actually spotted a fish she decided to move out deeper to see what else she could find!

It is really easy to use and pretty self explanatory. You just hold the goggle end up to your face placing the other end in the water. The goggles are soft so they don't hurt the face and stretch a little so it can fit all faces. It does a great job of magnifying things and was a lot more impressive than I expected from a toy. It's a working scope for kids!

To ad to the exploration fun, there is also an LED light insight! You do have to install batteries which is easy enough and then you are able to light up the water underneath you. Sadly if the water is murky, as it was in a lot of the bay water, it's only going to light up the murky water. You need to use it in clear water for good visibility but then it can help you see things that may be shadowed or under a rock.

While it is designed to use in the water, it does also work outside of it, almost like a big pair of binoculars. My two year old wasn't too keen on getting in the ocean so he spent most of his time on shore. That didn't stop him from exploring though! You could just see his amazement of the magnification. He would put it up to his face and then take it away to look at the same thing at normal size. It was quite entertaining watching him do this!

The scope is appropriately designed in bright colors like the sea and we had a lot of kids come and ask us what it was. It definitely had visual appeal! My whole family was impressed with the Scope!

This is a really cute idea! Our son has used this in the bathtub and enjoyed it. We will need to remember it when we travel so he can look at a real pond or something more than bath water =) It's a nice design and easy for him to carry and use on his own. Fun gift idea!

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. SubScope:

I received this product to review from educational insights. My 5 yr old daughter loves water activities so I knew it would be the perfect toy for her! This toy has a cute, kid friendly submarine shape. It is very sturdy and well made. She first used it in the bathtub to get an idea of how it works. Not too many discoveries to make but she had a lot of fun viewing her bathtub toys with it. Next we took it with us when we went to one of our local natural springs. Lots to see there and it kept her occupied for hours! She had so much fun looking at everything from little fish to interesting rocks in the shallow water. Kids were drawn to this toy and I heard many great conversations amongst them as my daughter shared it with her new friends. We did not use the light feature but found that it worked great even without it. It will be fun to use that on a different trip to see things in an even different light. I can't wait to use this product in some of our local ponds and streams and it will be great for introducing my daughter to how life in a pond is similar to and different from life in the springs. I know this toy will get a lot of use this summer and would recommend it to anyone with a little one that loves exploring water environments.

When we got a box of toys from EI, this was one of the first toys that my 6 year old and 3 year old boys went for! So far they have used it at the pool and the bathtub, as well as out of the water. They love looking at things and the light is a neat feature. The boys can't wait to use it more this summer when we go camping and play in the lake. It is very durable, it has been dropped by my kids a number of times.
