Cradles, Bassinets & Portable Cribs |
| Cradles, bassinets and portable cribs are smaller than regular-sized cribs. While they do not replace the crib, they are ideal in those early
weeks and months when you want baby close to you, to either monitor or feed. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines regarding baby's weight requirement, and make sure that mattresses fit snugly with no gaps. |

| Cradles |
 |
|
Cradles have an old-fashioned charm that makes them a favorite with many new parents. And babies enjoy the soothing, rocking motion
so much that sleep almost always follows. To ensure baby's safety, most cradles have locking pins that prevent the cradle from
tilting to an angle greater than 5 degrees. When shopping for a cradle, make sure it has a sturdy bottom and a wide base, and can lock
into a stationary position when required. Cradles are primarily constructed of metal or wood, depending upon the manufacturer. The
standard cradle size is 18" x 36". The cradle mattress is almost always included. The bedding for the cradle is usually
sold separately. |
| Bassinets |
 |
Bassinets serve the same purpose as cradles, however they come with bedding. Some models feature a rocking base or rocking basket,
which may also lock into a stationary position. Meshed sides and padded top rail ensure baby's safety, while a retractable
canopy protects your newborn from direct light. Most bassinets have extra storage space at the base and feature wheels that make it
easier to move them from room to room. The mattress is usually included.
| Types of Bassinets |
| a) |
Traditional Bassinets are ideal when you have a set place for one in your home, like next to your bed, but they can still be
moved from room to room. |
| b) |
Portable/Travel Bassinets are perfect for traveling since they fold compactly and are about 20% smaller than traditional play
yards, and come with a travel/carry bag. |
|
| Portable Cribs |
 |
As the name suggests, these cribs are lightweight and portable. They are particularly handy when you want baby to be comfortable,
yet close to you... no matter which room you are in. Plus, they are great for visits to the grandparents too! Easy to assemble,
portable cribs usually have wheels or can be folded for portability and easy storage. The mattress is usually included.
| Types of Portable Cribs |
| a) |
Traditional Portable Cribs, though smaller in size, resemble regular cribs in appearance. Most feature an easy-sliding, single drop-side for easy access to baby. |
| b) |
Bedside Bassinets function as cribs by night and play yards by day. Bedside bassinets make it easier to monitor or
feed baby from the comfort of your own bed. |
