Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cat verses Kitten [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While Cat® is known for heavy duty quality construction items, this truck seems more like a kitten. While described as having a steel construction, the main body of the truck, wheels, cab, and loader are all made of plastic. The only metal is the axels and the mechanisms for using the front loader. The articulation is very smooth and it even features some areas to latch it so it can remain up or partially up without holding it. The wheels move fantastic and it glides effortlessly across the floor on carpet and hardwood. The lifetime warranty is an added bonus with its plastic construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Well Made, Love the Details [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am amazed at all the ways my 3 year old finds to use her Cat Steel Wheel Loader. Sometimes its as intended: a landscaping vehicle. Sometimes its a guest at her dolls' tea party. Either way, she loves this toy. I was pleased with the quality of construction. It is made from a mix of steel pieces and plastic pieces. It was actually bigger than I expected too, which is great when my daughter actually uses it as a loader. The scoop is functioning and moves smoothly and easily but the loader doesn't stay up unsupported. We keep it inside but is rugged enough to be used for regular outdoor play as well.

The operation of the bucket is simple so even a young, green apprentice can get the job done. And who says that an apprentice has to be a boy? A little girl I know is well on her way to becoming a master apprentice before the age of 4! The construction of the loader seems like a great combination of metal and plastic, metal in all the key areas. It is very durable but lightweight. I believe it will hold up for those heavy jobs for a long time to come. Sadly, though, the CAT decals are already starting to peel off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable weather resistant toy truck [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love CAT truck, when I was younger I had quite the collection of them so it brings back memories when I see my kids enjoying playing with them. This truck is all steel but the scoop part which is plastic, while it stills works and is a heavy duty plastic I would have rated it 5 stars if that was made of steel too as it adds to the quality and could see it holding up better than plastic. My son plays with this truck more than any of his others at the moment, he loves to scoop sand and other debri up and dump them out. Would make a wonderful gift.

Most of its parts are made of heavy duty plastic which I think is good because my child (5 year-old) can actually carry it and play with it wherever without sacrificing durability. It is good size and runs smoothly. The only thing I notice and didn’t like is the loader part of it, mainly because it is not very smooth when my child tries to move it and pour the content down. She has to make an extra effort to move it. But overall it’s good toy if you’re looking for a durable great size toy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for sandboxes! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son (5) has been playing with this Wheel Loader for two weeks straight. This thing is TOUGH! It has been thrown down the outside steps well over 50 times and it doesn't show it. My son really enjoys cleaning his other toys up with this Wheel Loader by dropping them in his toy bin "the junkyard." The snow has melted away from his sandbox this week and we have been playing with cars almost nonstop. This is by far his favorite outdoor toy now too because the wheels are so big that they don't get stuck in the wet sand. He will certainly be getting another for his birthday and Christmas! I strongly recommend this as a gift for any child. It is so fun!! :)

I can see my son playing with it for a long time, having friends to share it with, and if we're lucky in 25 years maybe he'll pass it down to his kids. Seriously the quality is that good. But for now my three year old loves it; putting things in the loader and dumping them out. When the snow melts I imagine there will be a lot of play time in the sandbox with it. My only complaint is the bottom of the loader is metal and it scrapes on my floor. I absolutely hate the noise and worry about it potentially scratching my wood floors. But that is a personal problem really and doesn't take away from the enjoyment my son gets from this toy.

She has visited Diggerland and has an affinity for construction and excavator trucks. She was able to use this toy and her vivid imagination to play for a few hours while I was doing housework. The front loader really works which she was happy about. Overall, I recommend the Cat Steel Wheel Loader if you’re looking for a well made, quality toy that’ll keep a child occupied and able to use their imagination.
