Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the most unique and rewarding builds [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pros: The building experience for this set is so enriching. Using a great deal smaller pieces, pieces you would never have suspected, to create such a beautiful model. The designers of this set are geniuses and I hope they are the go to for all future Architecture projects. Nothing felt repetitive. I got excited with each next step. The numbering of the bags is perfect for someone that might have a smaller workspace (17 in all). This was just an absolutely amazing set and I highly recommend it. Cons: Pieces for a second Sakura tree would've been great, also more flora as a whole for the grounds could've really gone far, but all in all, it's beautiful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Set This spring, I toured Himeji Castle and climbed the passages to visit each floor. When I saw this set it was a must have. I usually build sets with my grandkids (9 and 5). I was in no hurry to complete the set and that was a good thing because there were several missing pieces. Waiting for the pieces slowed the process, but I wasn't in a hurry. Lego support has sent the missing bricks and I have the large Architectural kit that I could "borrow" some of the pieces to complete the build. In the castle, there is a narrow passage that has a wall designed to collapse by pulling the "Keystone" brick. Now that would be an amazing add to this set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic capturing of the real Himeji Castle Himeji Castle to me is a classic "trust the process" in live time when building it. My skepticism while making the set slowly evaporating as the courtyard, walkways, and the castle atop the hill began to take shape. I'm truly appreciative of Lego stretching out their Japanese architectural bits you get a glimpse of in the Ninjago sets into pieces like this as well as the Tranquil Garden set. Can't recommend it enough, especially if you're fond of Japanese and general Asian architecture. Fantastic display piece, and little things like swappable cherry blossom trees is a nice added touch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Repllica I've been to Himeji, and spent the day climbing the keep and prowling the castle grounds. I think this is clearly the most accurate and beautiful architectural model Lego has ever produced. The building techniques were ingenious, with a few interesting surprises along the way (that's a good thing!). However, I must register a complaint: the instruction book was missing an entire section and had another section completely out of order. Lego will replace the book, of course, but if didn't have such a high-resolution color printer with which to print the instruction download, I'd be sitting on my hands for the next couple of weeks instead of finishing of the landscaping later today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Display piece This model was a fairly simple and fun build with a nice payoff at the end. I would say that it is fairly priced particularly for an architecture set. This set was a nice change of pace after the Eiffel tower build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the one you want… This replica fortress from feudal Japan is a remarkable Lego set! I have not enjoyed one of the architecture builds this much since Falling Water. This castle is both detailed, and challenging, as one would hope for the biggest entry to the architecture series in twelve years! Nothing feels repetitive while building it, always keeping the builder engaged with fun facts throughout the manual (and the most facts in quite a while). Additionally, they’ve embraced a landmark they had not done before again. That’s refreshing, and rewarding because this series means so much to me personally. I loved last years entry with the Great Pyramid, but for only one Architecture series set surfacing in 2023, they knocked this clear out of the park! Absolute buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from an instant favorite This has been one of my favorite lego sets to assemble. There’s so many details hidden in the set that only the builder knows about. Passageways and rooms that will only be seen as it’s built. I would not have minded if the instructions included more details about the castle and why certain parts were used and what they represent - I always find those details a treat. Absolutely agree with some other reviewers that it’s a shame it didn’t come with more cherry blossom trees - looking at the photo on the back of the box of the cherry blossoms in bloom around the real castle give you an idea of how many more could be included. I think I’ll try to fix that on my own, but it would have been even better if more were included from the start. Still, it didn’t detract from how enjoyable the building process of the castle was, and I’m quite happy with how the finished product turned out.
