Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brought me back into LEGO So, I am a 23 y/o guy who probably has not played with LEGO in about 10 year. My whole interpretation of LEGO from memory was sets designed around children's games, movies, and pop culture. I had zero idea that the LEGO Botanicals and LEGO Art series existed. I saw this bonsai set and bought it without hesitation, though being out of the LEGO game for some time. I cannot believe how much fun this set was. It was so cleverly designed and came together beautifully in the end. I love the botanical series as well as the art series (I also just purchased the World Map set). I am officially hooked on legos again and cannot wait to see what genius comes out of their botanical/art departments next! Very well done!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun!!! I definitely enjoyed building this bonsai tree. I didn't like either of the two variants included with the set because I wanted to be able to showcase both the green leaves and the cherry blossoms. I spent awhile with this build because I love to challenge myself and line up all the pieces with the word Lego facing in the same direction. And I spent time designing a build that included both green leaves and cherry blossoms. I've attached pictures for anyone interested in my build. I'm totally in love with my bonsai tree and I plan on buying more sets to give as gifts to friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding creativity! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 10 year old son and I built this set together. He’s moved past a lot of the more basic Lego City, Harry Potter and Jurassic World sets and is wanting to try more unique Lego sets. This set lives up to creativity! Like nothing I have seen before from Lego. The bonsai tree comes with both standard green leaves or they can be switched out to cherry blossoms. When I opened the box, initially I wasn’t sure what to make of the hundred plus pink frogs. We had seen the frog piece before in green with various other sets (Harry Potters and a treehouse set). It turned out amazing and the cherry blossoms were beautiful. Such a creative way to reimagine a piece! This entire line uses existing piece types in re-imagined ways and they are incredible. Can’t wait to try a few other sets, especially the aquarium. Overall the build took us about two hours as we did a bit of pickup and put down. But it was so much fun! Challenging in a few spots to keep us both entertained. My son needed help in a few areas with the trunk. Not entirely suitable to a younger builder but could be done with some adult help. This is not a “play” set but rather a display piece and it’s amazing! Lego has given us hundreds of hours of electronics free time over the years and we will forever be loyal Lego builders.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worst Instructions I have completed many sets and this set, BY FAR, has the worst set of instructions! Brown on brown pieces, green on green pieces with NO outlines to help you discern placement. I took the instructions to get sunlight and even used the flashlight on my phone. Neither helped very much. If you try this, look at the instructions for the pink foliage first if you decide on going with the green. There are absolutely NO instructions on placing the green foliage. I had to look at the pink ones to get a "hint". POOR POOR instructions. This set is touted to be peaceful and relaxing. The instructions did NOT prove to be either. The only saving grace is that the completed set looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from !!!! I've always loved seeing lego sets on tv or in store growing up, but unfortunately was never able to purchase any. this is the first lego set i have ever put together and im hoping it won't be the last. i was expecting it to be difficult to put together, but i finished it in only a couple hours. i chose to the the cherry blossom version. i think the "worst" part of putting this together was the blossoms themselves, but only because there were 100 pink frogs for me to put on the tree. it wasn't even bad, it just took some time. the instructions were easy to follow and it was well worth the money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Frog-Kura Holy pink frogs, batman! I was stoked about this build through the first three bags. Everything up to that point was very interesting and creative. Bags 4 - 6 were somewhat tedious/repetitive and I'm not particularly fond of the design of the branches/leaves/blossoms. Worst part is, I was previously familiar with the "frog" piece used as a "blossom" in this set and I'm having a hard time unseeing it. As it stands, it looks like a pink frog infestation has overtaken my zen garden. The humanity! It makes me wonder if this piece was grossly overrun (and in the wrong color) during production of a previous set and the Ideas project was an internal competition to figure out how to use up 3M pink frog pieces. I hope they used them all up on this project so we don't see this fauna masquerading as flora in future sets. Great idea, execution was a little underwhelming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming I thought this was a neat concept but beyond that it's such a relaxing and pleasant build that I'm going to have to purchase more of them to gift to friends who aren't into LEGO as much as I am. I will also be getting a second for myself so I can display both the green and pink tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So amazing! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Oh my goodness, I have not built with legos in many, many years and I am so happy that I got the Bonsai Tree! Sitting down to begin took me back to my childhood. Beginning with the beautiful base that truly takes on the appearance of a planter you would grow a Bonsai tree in, it took me about 12 hours total time to build it. I chose to go with the cherry blossoms first because I absolutely love frogs. They are so adorable and add such whimsy to this precious piece! I love that you have the option to trade out to the green foliage that lends to the actual look of a Bonsai. I cannot wait to experience more of the Botanical Collection as they are released!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mother daughter bonding [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My design throughout the main house is trees and plants, I am always looking for something to add to the rooms. I saw this and I knew I had to have it. It took my 11 year old and myself about a week to fully get together how we exactly wanted it but that was not straight time by no means. We really took our time and enjoyed bonding over this. We put the pink flowers on ours and absolutely love the look and feel of it, you'd almost not know what you were looking at. The instructions were pretty simple and easy to understand. It does have lots of pieces that look the same so I believe patience is key to building it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it It’s very easy to build, the instructions were very clear. It only took me about 2 hrs to build. Also, instead of adding only the green side or only the pink side, I decided to mix it up and add flowers to the green tree top. I have anxiety being a first time parent and simply building this piece while my child was sleeping brought me so much peace. It sits perfectly next to my orchid in the living room, I love it. It does have loose pieces so I recommend not putting it anywhere where it can easy fall or a toddler can grab it :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hidden surprise I’m 24 and this was my first Lego set. It’s so beautiful and so straight forward to build. My absolute favorite part of this set is the fact that the cherry blossoms are pink frogs. This is now in my window with all my real plants. I hope they make more of these types of sets!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This set is awesome, only one thing I would change I really, really enjoyed building this set. It is beautiful and displays well on my desk. I enjoyed the process and it's very creative, allowing you to take control and lay out the foliage as you please. Such a great concept with near flawless execution. The only change I would make is including more pink flowers for the cherry blossom color scheme. There are far more frogs (the buds are frogs from other sets) than there are flowers and I was a tad disappointed by this in the final product. I have resorted to looking for someone to trade with via Lego forums because of this. Please double (or even triple) the number of pink flowers, that would make this the perfect set!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Option for Next Level of Lego Building [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love this Lego Botanical Collection Bonsai Tree building set. This is a great new addition to Lego's collection to try- different from our usual Harry Potter repertoire. It took us about an hour and 45 minutes for myself and my 11 year old to put it together. The set comes with the usual instruction booklet and numbered bags and offers some new, creative ways to build. I LOVE that you can build two different leaf sets- the green and the cherry blossom style using pink frogs to help create the blossom effect. So clever and it looks just lovely. Very creative! Bonus is that the Lego pieces are made from plant based plastic. This is a great display piece that currently sits on my office desk. Every time I look at my bonsai tree, I think of all the fun my daughter and I had putting it together. It makes me smile!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the Lego Bonsai Tree with my thirteen year old son and we throughly enjoyed this piece! First, I love the unique design of the Botanical Series. The Bonsai Tree is absolutely beautiful when put together and looks great within my sons room. He loves it being able to say he put it together. I also love the ease of assembly. Lego makes it really easy with their instructions to put their products together. I like that it is still challenging for my son but not in a way that makes him not want to attempt it. I would highly recommend this piece!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to read, fun to build This Lego was deceptively easy and quick to build. With the visual activity in the finished product I assumed it would be more involved, but the assembly patterns were easy to pick up and turn into a meditative process. Only problem I had is the print instructions were nearly impossible to read, just could not see any details for the dark brown pieces in the book without a spotlight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as Zen as a real bonsai [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was so much fun to build! I was excited to have this on my desk to add a little bit of class. It was so easy to build and it looks so nice! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the "rocks" because they didn't pour out very easily and tended to spill out everywhere, but other than that, it's beautiful, it was fun to build, and I love the fact that you can change the leaves to be blossoming. I know it isn't part of the directions, but I love how it looks when you mix the blooms with the regular leaves to give it a bit extra color. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So fun! I bought a Bonsai Tree for myself and one for my 15-year-old nephew and neither of us had any trouble putting it together. It's a relaxing, fun build. What I love most about it is that you can get a little creative with the colors. I put a mix of green and pink elements on my bonsai tree and it looks more full, whereas my nephew went with the full bloom pink build in the instructions, so our trees actually look very different from each other, which I think is awesome. We have so many Lego sets and the bonsai trees are constantly complimented and commented on. I think this set is a great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will be using to decorate my home! Love this Lego set. Can't decide on which I like better, the green leaves or pink frogs. I may mix the two or just swap every so often. Not super skilled in Legos. I'm really just starting out with Lego (discovered the enjoyment of building while playing with my kids) but it was an easy build for me. Can't wait to start getting into the bigger sets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love anything LEGO [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always want to build something with LEGO's. So, when I saw this LEGO Bonsai Tree I got so excited. I also like that you can change up the look of the tree anytime you want to. The versatility of this LEGO Bonsai Tree build is amazing and quite colorful. It's also uses several elements made from a plant-based plastic, produced using sustainably sourced sugarcane. Who doesn't like something that is manufactured to be earth friendly. Great job LEGO!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I despise this set! I've never had such a negative reaction to a LEGO set. The design is too special. The entire tree sits on a hinged piece on the base that is not the least bit stable. You wrap thin brown pieces around it which look silly. A "thousand" pink frogs sitting on branches made ZERO sense to me. The rocks look good provided they are sitting right side up and It is almost impossible to position that many "rocks" facing up. When they are upside down they look nothing like rocks. It was excruciatingly tedious to build with all the pink branches and frogs. The only thing that impressed me was the base it sits in which looks like a piece of ceramic. I may have liked it a point more if I had done the summer version first.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Showpiece, but Too Froggy This is a beautiful showpiece, though it looks better at a distance than close up. I don't think the frog piece was the best idea to represent the pink blossoms; in the pink blossom style, it looks like a colony of pink frogs has infested the tree. The green leaf style looks much more natural and more like a real Bonzai tree. I thought the building was fairly easy for an adult set. Building the leaf and blossom attachments was repetitive and tedious since each attachment was exactly the same and had lots of small pieces. I did not enjoy this aspect of the build, and thought it was odd that each set of leaves/blossoms needed to be clones of each other - nature does not have such rigid uniformity. But overall, I think it's a beautiful set and would recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great in green, but the pink frogs look odd The "cherry blossom" frogs just look silly, clearly they are frogs and anyone that looks at it will immediately wonder why there are pink frogs on a tree.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Quite Natural As a bonsai and Lego enthusiast, I was really excited to get this model. While it was fun to build, it wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped. My main issue is the shape of the trunk; the smooth curvature and unvarying branching gives a more or less mechanical, almost cybernetic look rather than the graceful bends of an actual bonsai. I would have liked to see two or three levels of tapered leaf structure, rather than just the flat grouping on top. The "pebbles" in the pot are just lazy and could have benefited from an actual built structure. As for the pink frog blossoms, I actually really like those and found them a fun use of an unusual piece! It gives it a whimsical twist... but then, I am also an owner of pet frogs, so I might be a little biased. Overall a nice set, and I hope LEGO will put out more Bonsai sets in the future!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great set, frustrating instructions Definitely don't get me wrong. The set looks amazing when put together. However the instructions were difficult to get through. The clay red and dark brown (sorry don't know the official Lego colour names) pieces look nearly identical on the instruction book. There was also a small error where it said to build the branches 3 times wherein it was actually supposed to be built 6 times. But a reasonable adult should be able to figure that out. My suggestion for similar colour bricks in the manuals: assign them a colour. Put an instruction that says clay red = yellow and dark brown = blue so that it would be far easier to differentiate between the two in the manual. I have minor eyesight problems and I had to squint many times to work out what the instructions were saying. As I said though; it looks amazing when it's all put together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing, but could be a smidge fuller This is my second lego set ever and I was on the fence about it but REALLY wanted the pink frogs. Like, desperately. I at first decided I’d make the green leaves only then keep the flowers and frogs for something else, but I felt like it wasn’t as full as I’d like when it was done. Then I had an idea to make it look like a Sakura tree mid bloom and it really livened it up. I really appreciate how they went the extra mile with the stand. It could have easily just been the pot and tree but having the slatted platform gives it that extra oomph. The same goes for the gems that are used for the rocks in the pot. I may have made it wrong, but there’s a bit of back and forth motion on the tree trunk that made it feel a little unstable when moving. As I said in another review, I adore the botanical collection and hope it becomes a mainstay.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great in pics, not so much after building For someone on a low budget, I really wanted to get this set as it looked amazing. Today I had that chance and it's the first time I've been disappointed with a lego set, which otherwise impress me. It is not the most stable build from trunk to leaves. The pictures on the box are arranged to make the canopy look great, but after you build them, it totally doesn't look as good as the box shows. It feels incomplete, as if missing leaves. The optional blossoms were a good additon but the frog pieces were used to simulate the flowers, which is a big turn off. Also necesserily repetitive to build, which would be ok if the final looks fulfilled the initial expectation. The instructions manual show a lot of different settings for but you can't do any without the pieces.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worth it?? From a distance it looks good, but ounce you get close and see that the “flowers” are hundreds of pink frogs, you can’t unsee it!! I now never switch it over from the green. It’s disappointing they couldn’t come up with a piece to use other than frogs! Even if the original creator used them they still could have been like great idea, but let’s use something other than frogs. So is it worth the money? I don’t think so! But that’s just my opinion….
