Rated 3 out of 5 by from Terribly Disappointed I’ve had such a disappointing time with this build I’m considering if Lego is something I’d even enjoy anymore. Not only was I missing a piece that I had to wait 2 weeks to get a replacement but after everything was said and done, after following the instructions as illustrated, the rear suspension was so loose and free it couldn’t hold up its own weight. But if research and it seems like others have the same problem as well. So my options are now to have a goofy looking F1 car or disassemble to reassemble. I’m no master builder so I may just have an imperfect set which is very disappointing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Missing one piece! But over great! Super easy and a real beauty to build. Unfortunately I have a piece that’s very similar to the one I need to finish the halo but I can’t. I’m thinking this got thrown in by mistake and the part I needed was left out by accident. I need part number 6391881

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Set for Any F1/Car Fan *****TLDR:***** Is it a 100% perfect-spec F1 car? No…if you get into the ultra-fine details (let’s remember it *is* a Lego set after all). However, it’s very clearly a McLaren F1 inspired set that was a lot of fun to build, mess around with, and will surely draw attention when on display. The set is very recognizable, and I’d call it a must-have for any F1/McLaren fan. *****MY GOOD:***** The attention to detail in the actual mechanics of the vehicle is incredible. The functioning differential in the rear, rack-and-pinion steering in the front, visible V6 with moving pistons and camshaft, and spring suspension, for example, are really well done and integrated into the set. The blue (wet-weather) Pirelli tires are perfect for orange/blue livery, but I hope to see some other tire types come out over time so I can switch them out (maybe make them quickly-swappable for fast “Lego pitstops”?). *****MY NEUTRAL:***** As some others have noted, the set’s design and livery is not quite the 2022-spec or the 2021-spec; it’s somewhere in-between. I don’t really mind this because I know the set was developed before each team unveiled their actual 2022 chassis’ design and livery, so they had to work with the 2022 concept and 2021 livery. I also can’t hold the handful of missing sponsors against it, as I’m sure there’s licensing issues at play. *****MY BAD:***** Some pieces are not clearly differentiated in the instructions to make sure you use the right one and/or put it in the right place. To their credit, this *was* done for many parts with warnings to make sure you do use the right part, but this was missed for other parts that could be difficult to distinguish. Separately, I would have liked to have driver numbers stickers (3 for Daniel Ricciardo, 4 for Lando Norris) if there are no licensing issues with that; the much smaller Mercedes F1 set has swappable panels for Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas’s numbers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unsealed Bag & Missing Parts Like others I was excited to see a 2022 F1 car available and that I ordered very early on the release date. I received it on time, but noticed when I opened the box, that Bag #1 was not sealed and there were a hand full of parts floating around. Once I started building, I quickly found the I had a missing part. I received that part, and now I found out I’m missing more parts. Now I have had other Lego set(s) with one or two parts floating in the box, but by the parts tearing themselves through the bag. But I’m very disappointed that Lego would sent out any product this way with an unsealed bag. I would have thought there was some quality review before closing the box prior to shipping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Fun Build Great looking racer and very reminiscent of the McLaren car, in a Technic fashion. Great manual as usual; appreciated that the parts were divided into 4 groups. I wasn't fazed by the stickers and expected it; plus they are repositionable on the smooth plastic if needed. It looks great on the shelf besides the 2006 Ferrari F1. BTW, if someone notices that the steering wheel is crooked when the wheels are straight ahead, just remove the wheel and the spacer behind it, then remove the gear, rotate it 90 degrees and put it back on, and then re-install the spacer and the wheel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Lego a success! I'm brand new to lego. It wasn't ever something that was gifted to me as a kid, but I'm a huge F1 and Mclaren fan and my brother so generously gifted this set to me for Christmas. This has been such a joy to put together and see more about how the suspension in F1 cars works. I've had the same issues with the steering wheel and stickers as others, but Lego has made a fan for life. This was SUCH an awesome build. I'll definitely be purchasing more lego technic sets in the future and would love to see more F1 lego collabs. If you're at all on the fence, go for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Set with Some Build Frustrations The set concept and overall execution are great for both lego and F1 fans. I will definitely be recommending this set to others. There were some build decisions that were frustrating, like the tail light that fell of at least 20 times during the build and the mixed components from different F1 years. It also seemed like there was a water or air leak during shipping & packaging because the stickers were falling off the page when it arrived and the instruction manual is beveled and creased odly. Otherwise, this is a great set that I think many will enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyable I am not an avid fan of F1, but I have watched some races in my lifetime. I started building with my sone who loves legos. I wanted something to challenge me and this was both challenging and fun. I only had one small issue. The back of the car there is a connection that cannot connect. There is a black piece that blocks the connection and if you remove it and connect it anyway, it looks weird. Fortunately, it connects fairly well otherwise. The back taillight piece also comes off rather easily. The steering for me was good. I did have to adjust it to align it properly, but that took wo minutes to fix. Anyway, I enjoy putting together the engine. Years ago, I actually rebuilt and engine, so that was the fun part. I love how it looks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from McLaren Build First I am a huge F1 fan which had a lot to do with my decision on purchasing this set. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience building the McLaren. Instructions were straight forward, easy to read, and the attention to detail is impressive. End result is beautiful and is now on display in my office at work which catches everyone’s eyes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overally really cool product This was just an overall really cool build, the stickers, the pistons moving, the front nose, everything. Really cool set, i find myself staring at it sometimes, real piece of beauty. My only problem is that the tires are a weird material and i wish they were 'real' pirelli tires like the Speed champion mercedes set it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lego Set!! As an experienced Lego Technic builder, this is my favorite build. You will find some new building techniques in this set that I found interesting. The design of the car is excellent. My only issue, and why I gave it a 4 star for value is that my set ha 5 or 6 missing parts. Although, I am not a builder who complains about missing parts, It does seem to me in the last few techic sets that I have purchased, it is becoming more common to have missing parts. However, I always find them on line .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting Aerodynamics This is a fairly common Technic build. The aerodynamics of a Formula 1 race car make this interesting. The engine block is standard and there is no shifting presented. Stickers are the usual pain to get correct. My biggest complaint is the inability to get the wheels straight ahead and the steering mechanism level. It is off by 45 degrees and I have found this on many Lego cars that use rack and pinion steering. For some reason if the system uses gears the steering wheel will end up level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and beautiful sequence of assembly I’ve assembled the Mill-Falc, Lambo, Porsche GT-RS3 and others - yet I enjoyed this one the most. It wasn’t as challenging as some of the aforementioned but worth more than its’ sticker ….by a lot

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A love/hate relationship I have to admit that I have a love hate relationship with Techic kits. I love them for the challenge they present and hate them for all the little tiny pieces that they have. The McLaren Formula Race Car is no exception. It is truly fun to build and amazing to watch as the pieces come together to make up the car as you go. The engineering on this is outstanding as everything fit and worked! A real challenge to put it together correctly and I like that. But….all those small tiny pieces drive me crazy….every time I open the next bag I gulp as I sort through them. As I said…a love hate relationship! If you enjoy a challenging build experience with really cool looking well designed model at the end, then I would recommend this to you. If working with small pieces bothers you, then Techic kits are not for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astounding set This set was an excellent buy. I had a wonderful time building this extremely detailed set. The use of unique angles to recreate the real formula one’s aerodynamic body structure is phenomenal. There are a lot of techniques in this car set that I haven’t seen in others. This set is also incredibly large for the number of pieces in the set. It is a great display piece, but it is also functional and can be played with.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Confusing instructions On step 3-6 the direction in which you place the pieces is not very obvious and relatively obscured by the angle the model is Portrayed at in the instructions. This pattern repeats in further steps such as in the late 100s and early 200s where you have to place pieces in specific directions and it is obscured by the weird angle at which the image is portrayed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge & amazing Took me a while to get this set but it was well worth it! This set is huge and surprisingly detailed. Yes there’s a lot of stickers but trust me, take your time and use tweezers. The end product is well worth it. I feel like any F1 can easily see why this is super cool. Hopefully this opens the door for more F1 cars like this I’d buy them all happily

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall AMAZING, but room for improvement As a long time F1 and McLaren fan, this is a must buy. The set looks amazing, but is a strange 2021/2022 hybrid. I would have loved to see the inclusion of stickers for 3 and 4 for Daniel and Lando respectively. The rear wing looks a bit off, especially on the DRS flap. There are a handful of loose connections in this are that break off pretty easily as well. A bit more functionality in the form of a gearbox or opening DRS would have been nice to see. The gearbox may have been a bit of a stretch in the compact body, but a DRS flap has been done before in an older set and would have been a great feature. It is somewhat present here, but only in a very simple form. I also wish there was a removable panel to cover the engine portion. It's awesome to see but I wish it could be covered for display. The wheels also are a place for improvement. To be a truer model, they would be staggered in size (small front, big rear) and the covers could be more flush or printed, similar to the ones in the Speed Champions set. I think this is an AMAZING set and I hope there are more F1 cars in the future. Great display piece, awesome building experience, one of my favorite sets in a long long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value Despite the mismatched 2021/22 Mclaren features, this set offers good value for your money. It is quite larger than I expected. Despite the limited actual Technic features, I still enjoyed assembling the set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Mighty Mac Very fun build .. I'd get your decal game tuned though! A side note that did not affect my build - some of the pins are VERY tight and a bit stubborn to engage, and at the end of build, there are a couple of graphical errors in the instructions (1 incorrect / misleading view, and one mislabled piece ... #21 was noted as #22 in the guide)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great build with minor errrors The build is great but they messed up the wheels because they are not “p zero” but are wets so they should say “cinturato” instead. Look at the w12 Lego set. Other than that, the lack of cover for the engine, and the steering wheel misalignment. the set is great for any f1 fan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sweet Grandson 12 put together in 2 days. Was missing 3 pieces but they were standard pieces that he could find in his stash. He and dad found instructions to be written for what seemed a left hander. Had a bit of trouble with that. Looks very cool and he does really like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected I didn't have as high expectations as I usually do going into a larger Technic build. There weren't as many moving functions as usual. I was pleasantly surprised that the design, particularly the suspension, kept me interested, and made for a really enjoyable build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome!! Even though it's technically not accurate, this set blew me away. The build was challenging and engaging and the final product looks absolutely stunning! The only downside is the price but considering the footprint of the model, I'd say it's worth it.
