Melissa & Doug K's Kids The Hungry Pelican

Description

This cuddly plush pelican has an empty belly . . . and a big appetite for fun! Young children can open the pelican's big bill (which squeaks when squeezed!) to drop four mini plush animals into his open mouth. Then the crinkly shrimp, squeaking octopus, and rattling fish and crab drop right into the bird's big belly! A peek-in, reach-in window on the pelican's front lets kids spot them easily and pull them out to try it all again. The repetitive activity is great for babies and toddlers working on motor skills and other early developmental skills. And thanks to an incredible array of fun-to-explore features--from chubby, squeak-able cheeks to crinkly wings to floppy, rattling feet--it never gets old! Do not leave in crib unattached. • Cuddly plush pelican toy to feed with plush sea creatures again and again • Pieces squeak, rattle, and crinkle • Pelican's bill opens and closes for feeding time • Skills at play include sensory development, fine motor, gross motor; great for self esteem • 9+ months

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I would choose a different toy We received this as a gift. Like other reviews stated, it'd be much better if the pelican's body had more structure to it rather than just flopping over. My son would definitely play with it more of I didn't have to hold it up or find something to secure it to when playing outside of his crib. Not sure if only I have this problem, but the pelican's mouth is pretty small. It's difficult to get the toys in without practically force-feeding; the octopus barely fits. The squeaker in the beak can be tough for a child to get to although the crinkle in the wings is superb. The crab rattle is a favorite.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I really wanted a fill and spill toy for my 1 year old. I chose the wrong one. This toy is well made, looks like the picture but doesn't function as well as it looks. If it did stand on its own (or even just SIT on its own) then my toddler might be able to figure it out without help. The holes are hidden because it just flops over and lies flat. It's just an expensive stuffed animal unles I'm using both hands to hold it up and open for him.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not meet expectations. I always love Melissa and Doug toys but was very disappointed in the Hungry Pelican toy. The Pelican is soft but without substance so it will not "stand up" so a child can put objects in his mouth and retrieve them from below his belly. The concept is great. The toy is not. Toys attached to crib rails aren't used anymore. Please redesign this toy so the Pelican is freestanding.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cute but Disappointing I loved this idea of this toy when I saw it online! The online pictures show the baby putting the small critters in the STANDING pelican's mouth and also the pelican sitting! I was very disappointed to learn the pelican does not stand or sit. It's just a floppy cloth toy that sits all folded on itself...its difficult for a baby to maneuver...but the little critters are cute

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Toy for Toddlers This is a very cute toy! I know the 1 year old I am giving it to will love it. Again, she will get to do to this toy what Mommy does - feeding it! It squeaks when the mouth is opened, and the child gets to see the food drop into the pelican's tummy. Little children love repetitive tasks and this is a perfect toy for entertaining and teaching the child.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not sure I would buy this again..... I purchased this toy for our 11 month old grandson. It is very cute and I love the idea of the interaction it teaches. However, it DOES NOT sit up like the picture. Instead it lays flat and therefore becomes a toy he is not interested in at all. If it is suppose to sit up, I need to know how to make that happen. A bit disappointing for the money spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this❣️ I bought this years ago when I worked as a parent advisor for children with vision and/or hearing concerns. The bright colors and textures attracted their interest. I must have lost the "pelican food" in a move. Are extra food items available? This is a great interaction toy WITH a child to learn cause and affect, social and communication skills!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as useful as thought Toy purchased so our one year old twin grandsons could chew the toys and take them in and out of the pelican. When I opened the package and set up the pelican, it just collapsed. There is a stiffened piece of material in it for support, but it was bent and even after straightening it the pelican still was not open for easy access to toys.
