Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please go back to the old baseplates There are so many issues with this new road system that I don't even know where to start. Here are the highlights: 1. The roads do no curve 2. The roads are not compatible with baseplates and are not compatible with other buildings built on baseplates (keep in mind that LEGO is still selling buildings that use baseplates) 3. The roads are far more expensive than traditional baseplates, yet they are more narrow and offer less flexibility than baseplates. 4. based on the number of negative reviews, clearly many other LEGO users are not happy with this transition. LEGO, please go back to selling baseplates and sets that are compatible with the traditional baseplates.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid these at all costs I've been building up my vast Legoland since 1980, and these road plates stink on ice. They don't mesh with the baseplates buildings are built on. You can't connect them to the baseplates because the road plates have a different height that doesn't line up even if you add flat bricks. They sit half a flat brick higher than the normal baseplates. How do you connect things that do not line up with everything else!?!?!? I hope whoever came up with and approved these road plates has been reassigned. If you're still gonna make these, at least bring back the old road plates so we have a choice. Preferably the ones from the '90s that had grass on each side of the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and fun I am having more fun with these road plates than I expected. A long time fan of the original road plates, I had set my expectations low, knowing that change is hard, but once I cracked the set open and started playing with these, I began having fun. I was able to immediately integrate existing City buildings from the Donut Shop Opening set, plus my own MOC buildings. I also was able to build a bridge with relative ease (see photo). Highly recommended for anybody building compact layouts in a tight space, or for kids who want a total city experience with their existing vehicles and boxes of bricks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Petition to bring back the older road plates This set might be nice for kids, but most people who have any of the older baseplates (like I do) will think of these as useless, as they don’t work well with the baseplates. I’ll use these for bridges and highways, but not for actual roads. I don’t think that these need to be discontinued, but I would like a design of road baseplates (an update is fine, even good) to be released alongside these. Please LEGO, the plates are fine, but the baseplates need to stay.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful replacement LEGO, please, stop juniorizing everything... you had a perfectly fine road system before and now you expect us to replace a years-old baseplate system with something less cost-effective? Cmon...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking set and display piece. I bought this mostly to display my various vehicles on. It has some neat details with two road signs and two street lights. There are no stickers and quite a few printed pieces, which is a huge plus for me. They have some plants and trees for visual appeal, and it was fun to place my cars on it and snap some quick pictures. It is also modular with the road being in 4 sections you can sort of move around. You can have a turn, a big straightway, or a junction. The only real complaint was the foilage. You get two trees and two flowers. With the road signs you have two fairly bare green plates that simulate grass. Some more plants would have really made that set pop, but for the price I was very happy with what it provided.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea, terrible product. The problem is this is a bad product. Lego says they wanted to create a flexible brick built road system. That’s great. But they didn’t do that. This is a perfect example of a potentially good idea with terrible execution. Lego has released the least flexible road system in over 30 years. It’s not really even a system if we are being honest. There is no way to create turns. There are no sidewalks. The lanes are two narrow for nearly all lego cars. There are obvious improvements that lego could have made that are missing such as bike lanes, manhole covers and street gutters. There is very little actual road included here so you obviously would need to purchase several of these sets. But...Lego doesn’t include pieces to actually connect several of these together. Because there is very little road and you need to purchase several of these, you would end up with an enormous amount of useless pieces such as the downward slopes. It also feels like the accessories (road signs, streetlights, trees) should be a separately set that you purchase as needed. The accessories don’t make sense in a set that clearly needs to be purchased in bulk. For many of these reasons mentioned above this is one of the worst “value” products Lego has ever released. You can only make straight road and there is very little of that included in this set. You end up spending money for a significant number of pieces you won’t use. It ends up being a product that is impractical for almost everyone. This feels like something that was created as an addition to the 2021 city 4+/Junior sets and not as a legitimate attempt to create a better road system. Lego has far to many talented designers and they understand their customers well enough that it is unreasonable to assume anyone at the Lego group thought this was a good product.
