Rated 5 out of 5 by from Opening windows of opportunity Purchased this to entertain my toddler boy grandson, not quite 2 years old who usually has trouble remaining in place for more than 10-15 minutes at a time unless strapped in his high chair during meal times or his car seat during an outing. This puzzle did what straps couldn't and that was to keep his attention for more than an hour of quiet interactive play with me or his parents to solo play on his own. Not only is this piece very well-constructed but it presents endless teaching moments from how different latches operate to learning colors, numbers, shapes, to building vocabulary, stimulating imagination and to developing problem solving skills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Cool! This is one of my 12 month old's favorite toys! She's too young to do most of the patches, but likes to open and close the doors herself after I undo the different latches for her. Behind the doors are different animals painted in a cute, silly style. It's fun to count them, make the animal noises, talk about the colors and so on. Excellent for open-ended play. My little one received this as a hand-me-down after it went through 3 older cousins, too! Very sturdy and well-made. I always have the Melissa and Doug puzzles we don't already own on her wish list because I know they will be so fun!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I normally don't review ! Before I start - I'm not a snowflake ! This ridiculous present has at least 3 possibly 4 lock mechanisms that people actively still use to prevent their children getting into/out of things - to teach them how to undo them is Simply dangerous ! Yes a couple , you could argue, would be the parents fault it not padlocked shut 100% of the time - im not here to argue those - we all do it !!! - The most ridiculous of them all the window lock & security door chain - this is not only to keep people out , but keep Little ones in aswell ! I'm sorry as your other products are great

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought for 3 year old grandson Christmas gift for 3 year old grandson. I was so excited to purchase this latch board. My grandson loves to learn and figure things out. This board teaches colors, numbers, counting, animal recognition and hand eye coordination. No pieces to misplace as everything is attached to board. This is a great learning toy. My only complaint is that some of the latches are not as sturdy or well made as I would expect with a Melissa and Doug product. Wondering how long they'll last with continual play. That is the reason why I didn't give it a five star rating. Some improvement could be made.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea and want to love this toy but.. The idea of this toy is fantastic and my son loves it and gets so excited when he plays with it but it is not very durable. he got some slobber on it (as all babies do with their toys) and the picture is just glued onto the wood and is already started peeling and lifting, keep in mind we have only had this toy for a couple hours, a toy this price and recommended for babies who put their mouths on everything should be made a little bit better...... overall my son likes it but I am not impressed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea, poor quality I have been looking for a latch board for a while now, and have always loved Melissa & Doug products, so decided to get this for my little one. I'm very disappointed in the quality especially for an item that is "crafted by hand". The #2 door doesn't open at all, it gets caught on the latch. The #3 and #6 door are both crooked and have to be jiggled to get them to open/close. The #6 lock also needs to be jiggled to get it to latch. These errors in quality make it difficult for my daughter to successfully open and close the doors which in turn frustrates her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great toy! My daughter (18mos) absolutely loves this! It keeps her entertained for a long time. It is very high quality. My only concern is that she will figure all the latches out and apply them to our house! She picks up on things too quickly. I highly recommend this toy.
